The gourmet destination

Food glorious food. We are lucky in Åre that we have some of the most varied, passionate, and high quality eateries in Sweden.

Food is an integral part of Åre. From the most elegant high end cuisine to the simplest, from restaurants where Sweden's top chefs are behind the stove to home cookery lessons, from micro breweries and distilleries to specialist bread makers and bakeries.

Local, local, local

Åre is rich with local ingredients, be it locally caught fish, reindeer meat from the Sami or berries and mushrooms that are scattered across the landscape.
There are many places in and around Åre where you can take a "fika", a Swedish tradition of coffee and cake. Another option is to stop off and have some waffles. Everybody should have waffles at least once when in Sweden!

Åre is in the county of Jämtland which has the highest number of organic food producers per capita. The region also has a rich food heritage and culture. You can see this in the local supermarket with a whole section given over to locally produced food.

Outdoor cooking

In winter on the slopes you can "go native" and grill your food on one of the grill stations that are located all over the mountain. All the other seasons of the year just light up a fire and cook your dinner.

One thing is for sure when you visit Åre, you will not go hungry.
