Local Gastronomy
Åre is a well-known culinary mecca in Sweden. There are 65 restaurants and bars in Åre and a number of nightclubs.
There is nothing like it anywhere else in the Swedish mountains and there is more to choose from here than in many Swedish cities. Celebrity chef restaurants sit side-by-side with local food artisan businesses that produce everything from sausages to chocolate pralines.
Several of the restaurants get their meat and vegetables from local farmers and growers. Food is an integral part of Åre. From the most elegant high end cuisine to the simplest hot dog stands (though with master chef Magnus Nilsson from famous near by Fäviken Magasinet behind the idea), from restaurants where Sweden's top chefs are behind the stove to home cookery lessons, from micro breweries and distilleries to specialist bread makers and bakeries.

Åre is in the county of Jämtland which has the highest number of organic food producers per capita. The region also has a rich food heritage and culture. You can see this in the local supermarkets with large sections given over to locally produced food.
